What is PET?
PET (or even PETE) is an abbreviation for Polyethelene Theraphilate, and is a form of polyester yarn that is produced by taking discarded plastic bottles and forming hair thin threads of polyester yarn.
This yarn can then be used for various weaving purposes, including beautiful, handwoven rugs. This is by far a more innovative, sustainable method of reducing the impact of plastic bottles on the environment, and reusing them in an advantageous way.
PET can be recycled by washing and re-melting, or by chemically breaking down its components to make new PET resin. It also helps to know that most recycling programs around the world accept PET, which makes recycling so much more convenient than other materials.

What’s so good about Recycled PET yarn?
We have already established that recycled PET is 100 percent sustainable and recyclable. But that does not mean we are confined to a beige or nature toned palette or stiff fibres. Quite the opposite, in fact. Rugs made from recycled PET can give you the same luxurious look and feel of wool, and a rich, lush palette to make any artist proud.
And because PET is essentially plastic, rugs made from PET fibre are durable and easy to clean, they do not absorb liquids or collect dust easily.
